Growing up on a small hobby farm, I started riding horses at a young age. When I was old enough I was able to participate in our local 4-H program. My love of horses only grew stronger over the years and I became involved in everything I could. My passion took me to The University of Minnesota, Crookston where I graduated with a Bachelor degree in Equine Science. At Crookston I was able to compete in Hunt Seat and Western Pleasure on the IHSA team. I also did Barrel racing and goat tying in NIRA. I was always around performance horses that needed a little extra to keep them in top condition.

This allowed me to practice on many horses. Massage allowed me to form a bond with my own horses like never before. I always had people that wanted me to show them what I was doing because they were seeing a difference in the horses that I was working on. In 2001 I began giving clinics and loved sharing with others how they could help their own horses. I have been working on developing a curriculum that will prepare an Equine Massage Therapist to work as a team with the horse’s owner and other equine professionals to help each other with the whole horse. This is a Certification Program to teach techniques that I have learned over the years. I encourage students to develop and use their own techniques as well. I want the next generation of massage therapists to know and understand Equine Anatomy, horse behavior and response recognition, how to check for soreness, and most importantly I want to encourage the massage therapist to work as a team with the horses vet, chiropractor and farrier to make a difference for each horse.

The Massage Certification Program will consist of 4 days of Classroom and hands on training. We will study anatomy and various techniques and touch on other alternate therapies. I want to prepare you for helping any horse. After the 4 days the participant will go home and find 4 horses to massage, four times each. Document each horse’s progress through the four massages. We will discuss more details in the classroom session. Once all are submitted for that participant will receive a Certification of Achievement from Armstrong Equine Massage Therapy, LLC.
